Trees and planning in Somerset
Since 1 April 2023, Somerset Council has been the single unitary authority for most of the county, replacing Somerset County Council and the former Mendip, Sedgemoor, South Somerset and Somerset West and Taunton district councils. Planning applications, Tree Preservation Order applications and Conservation Area notices now go to Somerset Council.
North Somerset and Bath & North East Somerset are separate councils with their own planning and tree officers — so it's worth checking which authority covers your site before you apply.
